CNC gantry plate plasma drill Gemini

CNC gantry plate plasma drill Gemini
  • CNC Gantry Style Plate Fabrication Center for fabricators and machinery builders of all sizes. The Gemini handles sheet metal to heavy plate, cutting, marking milling, drilling, tapping, beveling and thermal cutting on one system with unprecedented accuracy and the lowest cost per part for any comparable system.

    Cutting:

The Gemini's moving gantry design allows a wide range of plate size and thickness. Fitted with plasmas from 200-400 Amp and optional oxy torches the Gemini can cut plate from <1mm-80mm in mild steel and <1-40mm in stainless brass and aluminium.

The accuracy higher than 0.1mm ensures better fit-up and less welding time.

For heavy plate work the Gemini can be supplied with up to three oxy-fuel torches for accurate stripping or multiple part cutting.

    Marking and scribing:

The Gemini can be fitted with a wide variety of marking devices depending on your needs. Light fabrication and bending lines can be marked with a scribing tool, plasma marking or flame powder marking.

Light identification marks and part numbers for fabrication can be added with the scribing tool, plasma marker or pin marker.

Heavy marking suitable viewing post painting can be performed with scribing or pin marking tools that are ideal for after erection identification purposes. Centre locations for welding studs or reference points are produced with the scribing tool.

    Drilling and Tapping:

About 60% of plate parts have holes drilled in them. The Gemini's high speed machine tool spindle allows fast drilling of holes from 3 mm to 30 mm in diameter on the HP series and up to 50 mm on the HD. For holes up to 300 mm in diameter the Gemini can mill holes to high accuracy (<0.1mm tolerance on diameter and ovality).

The high speed spindle combined with wide area clamping provide very high productivity for most common hole sizes (e.g. ten 22 mm dia holes per minute at 100 mm spacing).

The accuracy of the Gemini means unprecedented tolerance of both hole to hole and hole to edge positioning can be achieved.

Using the optional laser plate finding system, hole to edge tolerances better than 0.5mm and hole-to-hole tolerances of less than 0.1mm are possible.

For many machinery operations and some construction, tapped holes directly into the structural components save added welding, fitting of nuts etc. and reduce assembly time. For tapping operations the digital control system provides high quality threads on tapped holes as small as 3 mm for cable clips etc. and up to 22 mm for structural bolts and above that thread milling can produce threads up to 100 mm.

Both the HT2000 and HPR260-HPR400 XD Hypertherm plasma units are available.

The Gemini is equipped with the WinNEST software package to maximize material utilization through nesting.

Fanuc hardware is provided with a human interface using Ficep Minosse software.

    Edge beveling:

The Gemini can make weld edge preps either by milling or plasma beveling. For precision bevels milling is more accurate. For variable bevels, large parts and K preps plasma beveling is the more economical process. For economical welding J preps and thickness reduction can be performed with milling tools.

    Face and slot milling:

On machine parts and many structural parts slotted holes, milled bearing/mating faces etc. are required. Traditionally these operations were performed on large machining centres or boring machines after fabrication. The accuracy of the Gemini in both cutting and machining means that many of these operations can be performed on the flat piece, thus eliminating the expense, handling cost, floor space and lead-time of later operations. For fabrication milling of bearing faces can drastically reduce welding costs

The new FICEP Gemini series of plate gantry plasma machines definitely brings to the market a new concept of manufacturing that will be the benchmark for the years coming.
